Volunteering at MYFC

We currently boast over one hundred volunteers and are always looking for more!

In what capacity can I help?

- On-pitch coaching/assistant coaching.

- Off-pitch (behind the scenes).

- Becoming a referee.

Do I need a child at the club to be able to volunteer?

No. Many volunteers are, of course, affiliated with a child or family member who plays at the club, but this is not always the case. We encourage anyone who wants to become involved in grassroots football.

What age do I need to be?

- Coaching/assistant coaching: 16+

Off-pitch behind the scenes: 18+

- Becoming a ref/running the line: 14+

I do not have much time to commit. Can I still volunteer?

Yes, absolutely. We work to your availability. For example, if you can spare one hour per week, that's fantastic; you'll be welcomed with open arms. If you can spare five hours per week, that's exactly the same! The only thing we ask is that you commit to the time offered.

This page gives important and useful information before you volunteer.

How do I know if there are volunteer vacancies?

Off-pitch: Vacancies are shown on the contact page here.

NB: We can create specific roles to suit.

NB: We are also looking at role support and succession planning.

On-pitch: We are looking for more helpers to support Team Managers and/or more FA Level 1-qualified Team Managers.

Referees: Always in demand...!

Simply register your interest above.

Is training given?

Yes. All training is provided on and off the pitch as needed. No coaching, volunteering, or refereeing experience is required.

NB: References may be required.

NB: FA Codes of Conduct and our own MYFC Ethos/Guidance are also on the Welcome Pack page (link above).

Do I have to pay?

MYFC are usually able to pay all costs.

NB: Depending on your role, you may also need to take Safeguarding/First Aid Courses, typically online.

NB: More details are available on the Welcome Pack page (link above).

If the club are paying for me, what do I need to give back to the club?

Not as much as you might think!

Do volunteers ever get together?

Yes. Volunteers within individual teams often develop a close working pattern, with some social. Also:

- Coaches/assistants meet at coach-training events put on by the club.

- All volunteers are invited to our quarterly club committee meetings.

- Our annual Christmas gathering to say thank you !

MYFC Coaches at the Raj!

Without volunteers, we have no football club. Thank you to EVERYONE who gives up their time for MYFC!

Referee Volunteering

League appointed referees are not common in development leagues (to U11), gradually becoming the norm in older leagues (U12+). Where the league does not appoint a referee, the home team must provide one.

This is usually a coach or parent volunteer who does it for free.

MYFC's Rich Bartlett reffing

To assist this, we actively encourage our players (14+) to qualify as youth football referees.

It also helps them develop their own game, promotes the correct culture of playing, and offers excellent personal development / CV experience.

Parents and coaches are similarly welcome, too...!
